So I’ve been sort of following this whole St. Louis Rams sale and Rush Limbaugh’s interest in purchasing the team. I just stumbled across an article linked on Drudge Report about Rush Limbaugh being dropped from being in contention as a potential buyer.
Al Sharpton came out strong as a critic of the deal with Rush. Rev. Al Sharpton said, “we shouldn’t welcome owners who are “divisive and incendiary.” That’s a flippin’ laugh! If there’s anyone who knows how to be divisive and incendiary it’s him. But Al Sharpton’s views aren’t what kept Rush Limbaugh out of contention. And doesn’t Olbermann make divisive and incendiary statements? I believe that Roger Goodell has allowed him to work with the NFL by commentating games.
Apparently, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay came out saying he’d not support the selling of the team to Limbaugh. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell agreed.
Jim Irsay is making a strong statement of rejection of Rush Limbaugh because of political views. Honestly, I couldn’t care less if Rush got the team or not, but since when is football related at all to politics? Is a football team owner not allowed to have opinions? Rush Limbaugh’s career is as a political talk show host. Who cares?! Why should that preclude his seeking after his dreams of owning a football team?
I’ll tell you why Jim Irsay rejects Rush Limbaugh, not just as a potential football team owner, but as a person. Jim Irsay doesn’t seem to believe firmly in either political philosophy. How do I know this? I’ve done some research to find the root cause of this man finally finding something to be passionate about; being a stumbling block for a certain private citizen seeking to be an NFL team.
Here’s my research for you. According to News Meat (Popular Campaign Donor Search Engine) Jim Irsay has given close to $100,000 in political donations since 1978. This is one little interesting tidbit;
| IRSAY, JAMES MR. INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46253 INDIANAPOLIS COLTS/OWNER |
George W Bush (R) President BUSH-CHENEY ’04 (PRIMARY) INC |
Won |
$2,000 primary |
04/01/04 | |
| Irsay, James Indianapolis, IN 46254 Indianapolis Colts/Owner and CEO |
John Edwards (D) President EDWARDS FOR PRESIDENT |
Lost |
$2,000 primary |
01/13/04 |
So he gave donations to both John Edwards and George Bush in the 2004 Election season. You can look at more on News Meat and you’ll find he’s done interesting things like that throughout the years, such as giving money to the RNC and DNC in Indiana only 3 days apart.
So in today’s society, being divisive and incendiary is enough to kill the dreams of Rush to own a football team, but since when is sitting on the fence more admirable or honorable?
God Bless America!
